Dr. Rettler has lived in Arizona for most of her life. She grew up around the racetrack and worked for some of the most well-known trainers in Arizona and California. She obtained her trainer's license in 1980. For more than 17 years she pro-rodeod as a member of the GRA/WPRA. Dr. Rettler was named 1980 Jr.Horseman of the Year by the Arizona State Horseman's Association.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Rettler attended UofA in Tucson, Arizona. She majored in Business Administration, Animal Health Science and also completed the Race Track Industry Program. Dr. Rettler's Honors Independent Study in genetics consisted of embryo transfers and micromanipulation of embryos. She published a research paper before graduating. Dr. Rettler participated in various extra-curricular activites while attending the UofA. She was a member of the rodeo team. She was also a competitive swimmer, briefly played softball for the Lady Wildcats and raced her own horses at Rillito Park. Dr. Rettler bred and trained Hy Doodle Bug, a mare that won the 1986 World Championship Barrel Racing Futurity.
While attending CSU, Dr. Rettler introduced the veterinary medicine component to and began working with PetSmart. She was the Director of PetSmart Veterinary Services from 1987-1994. From 1995-1998, she taught beginning and advanced veterinary technician courses, animal science and human anatomy/ physiology to upper level students at Carl Hayden Center for Agribusiness. She also coached the rodeo team at that school. She worked as an Future Farmers of America leader and continues to support FFA and 4-H regularly.
Dr. Rettler lives in Queen Creek, AZ. She continues to breed and race quality Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds and train barrel horses. She specializes in equine lameness and reproduction. Her practice is largely mobile but she does see "healthy" patients that are hauled in to her facility (by appointment only) for routine care, reproduction diagnosis/treatment and lameness evaluations. She provides low-cost, quality, trust-worthy preventative care for companion animals.
Dr. Rettler is a Christian and gives all the credit for her accomplishments and successes to the Lord.
