Optimal Care:
Adult Equine Wellness Program
Physical Exam - twice a year, spring & fall
Dental Exam – twice a year
Dental work usually once a year or as recommended by vet from examination

Vaccinations:
EWT (Eastern & Western Encephalitis + Tetanus) - once a year, usually early spring
Rhino-Flu – at least twice a year, early spring and fall; every 3 months for best protection
Strangles – once or twice a year depending upon stabling and travel conditions
West Nile – twice a year, early spring and fall
Rabies – once a year, usually fall
Fecal Exam:
Once or twice a year. Examination for parasite eggs and sand

Deworming:

Every 30-90 days depending on time of year, stabling conditions and product used.
Rotate wormers based on the active ingredient.
My preferred rotation: Anthelcide Eq (aka Strongid) , then wait 30 days, then use
Ivermectin, then wait 60 days, and then go back to Anthelcide Eq., etc.

Anthelcide gives 30 days protection; Ivermectin gives 60 days.
If horses are out on pasture without a moist, shady area, you can worm less during the summer because the sun exposure will kill the eggs.

Coggins Test

Upon acquisition and then once a year if traveling outside of the state

Castration (if needed/desired)
Between the age of 6 months and 18 months usually in the fall

Wolf Teeth Removal
At the time of castation; or in the case of intact males and females, between 18 months and 30 months or at the start of bit training.
